Circle Pacific 1998/99 - Day 7 - California
- Ranger left note offering a refund for lack of water - ok - $15 is $15!
- Drove around Muir Woods/Mt Tamalpais + suburb north of SF - kept ending up on street called Throckmorton - this is now our term for getting nowhere in a circular fashion
- Good billboard on our way out of SF
- South on Hwy 1 looking for free camping - followed sketchy notes about Los Padres Nat'l Forest - found turnoff + started up curviest, foggiest, unmarked-est, generally weirdest road ever been on - getting creeped out by curves + drop-offs - 5 miles in road ends at rock wall - feels like a bad place - weird impression that rock wall is moving away from us, as if to say "Back up + get the hell out of here!"
- Hot-tailed it back down the road to the highway - road made Dave think that it went on + on to nowhere - reminded Shan of Stephen King story Mrs. Todd's Shortcut - Dave called the escapade Escape from Witch Mountain - yeah yeah already taken, we know
- Moonlit drive down Hwy 1 looking for another place to pull off
- Pulled into San Simeon State Beach/Park around midnight - camped to sounds of surf
