Europe 2010 - Day 1 - CDG to Sarlat-la-Canéda

Dawn over Ireland...

Landed in Paris, got our rental car, plugged in the optional GPS (very good decision), and managed to get out of Paris in a southerly direction. Decided to make a side trip to Chartres "because we've never been there."

Got to Chartres, saw this...

...and realized we've totally been there.

Some cool buildings...

Cool, half-timbered staircase built in 16th Century...

The prettiest butcher shop ever...

The cathedral had had a lot of renovation since we'd been here last, but there was a service on, so no photos inside. Here's the facade, though, and a detail of the door...

More great hinge and lock details to come on this trip.

Thanks to our little side venture and later rain gales and crazy tiny backroads and questionable GPS routing, we arrived in Sarlat-la-Canéda after 9 pm -- a bit dark for photos, so more on our accommodations in the next post.

Where are you headed? Have I already asked you?
