- Train: Vienna to Munich
- Walked Munich center - visited Viktualienmarkt - awesome olive/pickle stand among great food stands
- Bus: Rijeka to Trieste
- Train: Trieste to Udine
- Overnight train: Udine to Vienna - reserved seats in sleeper compartment occupied - shared compartment w/sleepy Polish fellow
- Ferry: Mljet to Dubrovnik
- Overnight ferry: Dubrovnik to Rijeka - another nice Adriatic sunset
- Ferry: Dubrovnik to Mljet
- Hiked around island looking for remote beach access - no joy, but nice walk
- Picnic dinner on hostel's upstairs waterfront patio
- Björn + Jenny will stay on, visit Plitvice
- Great outdoor clifftop theatre outside Dubrovnik's old town - were 1 week too early to see Troy here - would have been cool in this setting
- Narrow alleys of Old Town
- Views from atop the city walls
- Ferry to small island off Dubrovnik - chilled on the western beach...
- ...no suits or cameras on the southern beach!
- Had a swim off the eastern shore before ferrying back to Dubrovnik - flashed some fishermen while getting dressed again
- Ferry: Vis to Split
- Bus: Split to Dubrovnik - nice sunset during pit stop in short coastal stretch of Bosnia-Herzegovina
- Found homestay room among folks @ bus depot
- Bus: Vis town to Komiza on other side of island
- Back to our side of island - walked to a WWII-era British fort
- Walked up to hilltop overlooking Split + coast
- Split busy! - market day, holiday, + major soccer/football game today
- Ferry: Split to Vis - walked around our side of the island
- Train: Rome to eastern coastal town of Ancona
- Ferry: Ancona to Split
- Headed out along the Via Appia Antica to see the Catacombs
- Walked back into the City to check out the Baths of Caracalla
- Couldn't resist putting our bare feet on the ancient mosaic
- Back to hostel to rest + read while Björn went to airport to see Carolina off + meet Jenny
- After a false start @ another restaurant, a great time was had @ our new favorite place - molto vino!
- So the trick to avoiding the enormous line @ the Vatican Museum is to go on a Wednesday morning, when everyone instead crowds St. Peter's Plaza to see/hear the Pope (in white)
- Have vouchers from our hostel for free coffee + pastry each morning @ shop on Via Marsala - the barista is a goddess - best cappuccino Shannon's ever tasted, and probably ever will - even Dave, who hates coffee, could see why Shan loved it
- Fortified, we walked the city for the rest of the day - Dave just finished reading Angels & Demons, so he's busy checking out locations from the book
